Brandberg mountain glows deep red in the setting sunlight that flows across the desert floor onto the mountain making it seem like it is on fire, giving it the name Brandberg - Fire mountain.
It is a large granite massif that dominates the otherwise flat area rising to 2573 metres making it Namibia's highest peak.
Climbing Brandberg mountain is a daunting task and not within the scope of the normal tourist but the views of the mountain can be admired and the surrounding area has several other points of interest to make the trip here worthwhile these include the numerous rock paintings with the highly unusual Brandberg White Lady, a remarkable variety of rare plant species and lots of animals wandering the slightly desolate but dramatic landscape of the area.
