Things to See and Do at Khorixas

There are a number of fascinating geological formations in the area including the petrified forest at Khorixas, about a 30 minute drive from Khorixas restcamp, and the organ pipes at Twyfelfontein.

While the organ pipes may be fascinating, Twyfelfontein is best known for it's rock art. Less than 100km from Khorixas, Twyfelfontein is Namibia's UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is possible to visit Twyfelfontein on a day trip from Khorixas if you wish, or as part of your journey to Torra Bay and the Skeleton Coast.

In fact you can find rock art all over this area of Namibia, there is also the famous "White Lady" rock art at Brandberg further south of Twyfelfontein, and at Spizkoppe even further south closer to Windhoek. There are over 2500 rock paintings and engravings which are known about, and a guide can show you some of these rock paintings which date from between 1,000 and 10,000 years ago. This rock art was created by the San people and usually depicts hunters and various game such as antelope, giraffe, zebra and lion.
