Sesreim supplies

There is no town or villge at Sesreim, the nearest 'town' is Solitaire (and that is a story for another day!), so where do you get fuel and food when you are visiting the Namib Desert at Sesreim?

When you get to Sesreim fuel is usually available at three locations, a station inside the Sesreim gate, an Engen station just outside the Sesriem Gate and at Solitaire (83km north of Sesreim), you can also get basic tyre repais done at these locations.

For food and drinks there is a well stocked shop by the Engen garage just outside the gate and a good assortment of supplies available at Solitaire.

It is recommended to fill up with fuel wherever you can find a reliable fuel station even if it is to just top up your tank as fuel distribution although normally reliable in Namibia can occassionally get disrupted for unexpected reasons and distances between places in Namibia are large (no fuel stations between towns even along major roads).
Also take plenty water on every journey and I dont mean one litre per person, more like 5 plus litres per person at all times.

From Windhoek
If you are driving from Windhoek we recommend buying your food and drinks at one of the many supermarkests in Namibias capital city, you will find them well stocked with everything you need. On the way you can refuel at Rehoboth (not too far south of Windhoek but last place before Sesreim).

Arriving from the South
Coming up from Luderitz, Fish River Canyon and South Africa

Luderitz
Has supermarkets fuel and shops for all supplies

Fish River Canyon
There is a smattering of small places along the route from Fish River to Sesreim including Seeheim, Aus and Helerminghausen where you can normally get fuel but nothing really of note for supplies so bring supplies for your journey and buy extras at Sesreim. There is normally fuel at Ai Ais if you are staying there (not at Hobas) and at Canyon Roadhouse just north of the Canyon.

South Africa
If you are coming across the border you can bring a lot of your supplies from South Africa but check up on cross border regulations, for example fresh meat even frozen cannot be taken across the border (so braai it all before the border and restock with some tasty Namibian game meat).
Fuel has less tax on it in Namibia than South Africa but still tank up before you leave South Africa as distances from the borders to the first towns in Namibia are quite long.
Depending on which border you are crossing there are fuel stations at: Ariamsvlei, Karasburg and Grunau.
