Things To Do at The Delight
The town was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for the German colony of South West Africa. It was named “mouth of the Swakop” after the river that occasionally flows into the sea. The original name given by the Herero people is Otjozondjii, which means “place of seashells”.
The three museums in town, the Swakopmund Museum, the Kristall Galerie
and the Steam Locomotive Museum will enlighten you to the history of this
beautiful town on the edge of the oldest desert in the world.
